The Back Carry

This is position is for babies or toddlers that are cooperative and have good check and head/neck control. Always make sure they are securely in the sling, and the fabric is completely under their bottom, extending to the knee.

1. Begin with the rings higher up than you would normally would have them. You may even need to start with the rings behind your shoulder a bit.

2. Put your child in a hip carry position. Make sure their shoulders are covered with the sling.

3. Lift your arm up and over their head while you carefully slide them around to the back.

4. Pull tail if needed to tighten sling. Reach under shoulder and pull out folds across your shoulder for comfort. You will want the rings to land either between your breasts or just above. If you are breastfeeding, take care that the sling is not putting too much pressure on your breast and milk ducts.

5. Make sure the fabric is completely under their bottom like a chair. The fabric should come up around your child's shoulders for safety. Have someone check that your child is securely in the sling the first time you try this position, or any time you are unsure.
